Summer Art Program at the Pruyn House Barn

On June 29th twenty-eight enthusiastic 4th, 5th and 6th graders gathered in the Pruyn House Barn and began four days of the Colonie Art League Summer Art Camp. This year the group was evenly divided into morning and afternoon campers, giving us fourteen in each group.

Two things made this year’s group of campers unique. First of all, we had an almost equal number of boys and girls and second, the group was a very diverse mix of races and nationalities. A few of them were returning to camp for the third time. During the four days of camp we covered watercolor and drawing with Kevin Kuhne and Sue Lunow, sequential art with Laurel Petersen and her son Brett and “Poetic Pebbles” with Seema Munitz. Alcohol inks on tile, tie-dying and “Paint like Jackson Pollock” were covered by Marjorie Ward. Throughout the week we were fortunate to have five extremely talented young women from Shaker High School’s advanced art program who served as counselors and were an incredible asset to the program. Our campers were delightful, energetic, talented and well behaved.

We were blessed with sunny skies, cool breezes through the barn and no mosquitoes! As always, the spectacular Pruyn House gardens were a source of inspiration to campers who wanted to sketch and paint outside. Each camper was invited to leave one piece to be displayed in the school house during Old Fashioned Sunday in September. A very special shout-out goes to Kevin Kuhne for not only teaching on Monday but returning every single day of the camp to assist in any way needed. Thanks Kevin – you were a very special part of Art Camp 2017! Look for our photos below.
